Located half way between Alexandra and Clyde is Immigrants Vineyard. Originally from the Netherlands, Roland and Lucienne have created a Central Otago viticultural paradise right on the Otago Central Rail Trail.
The Tasting Room
A Grand Design
When Lucienne & Roland first purchased the vineyard, there were no buildings on the property. This blank canvas was perfect for designing and building their dream home and tasting room.
Roland took inspiration from his European heritage as well as wanting to incorporate locally sourced Otago schist rock.
While their son Michiel built the house and Roland laid the schist stone by hand, Lucienne was ensuring the production of Ruru Wines was running smoothly - it definitely was a family affair!
The project took eighteen months and the whole build was documented on Grand Designs.
Patience, passion, vision and exceptional hard-work were key elements behind the Immigrants Vineyard Tasting Room.
Ruru Wines
The wines produced on Immigrants Vineyard are named after New Zealand’s only native owl - the morepork. The Māori name for morepork is Ruru, and they are often seen as the guardian, protector and bearer of good news. And so, the Immigrants Vineyard named their wines Ruru.
There is a wide range of wines produced from the vineyard; Pinot Noir; Rosé; Chardonnay; Riseling; Merlot; Cherry Wine; and a Magnum.
